Sara Bahai, the first female taxi driver and women's rights activist in Afghanistan, is garnering recognition in the public sphere she has always aspired. However, her greatest conflict arises in her own home when her sick mother, Bibi, asks her to marry before she dies.

"Oh, Dear Sara" portrays the collision between the public sphere and Sara's private life. A tension arises in Sara as she longs to be part of that public world where women don't belong, while her private life tries to keep her from her dream, enslaving her within the inner depths of patriarchal tradition.
